And have we, as warned NOT to do so by A Course in Miracles, made some 'bitter idols' of him?This book took some 42 years to complete, as Paul pondered over the real significance of Christ's mission on planet Earth. How is that mission travelling now? Maybe we attend a church; it might be out of habit. Maybe we can't see what all the fuss is about. Perhaps we're too ready to interpret Jesus' teaching in terms that suit our wishes. Or we might dismiss it altogether as something from a distant past that has little or no meaning in our busy lives today. If so, we're not alone. The competing ideas around the Christian teachings, some with their muddled messaging, don't make it easy for anyone. So I started right back closer to the beginning, specifically the year of CE69 when the forces of Rome were about to tear down the Jewish temple in Jerusalem. Fortunately, I felt I had permission to follow the apostle Mark; registering his difficulties in that scary wartime environment. (As you might have guessed, the short swords of some Roman soldiers will certainly be employed in combat.) I wanted to see how Mark managed in the country of Samaria, North of Jerusalem. He soon came across others who might be friends but just as easily, could be enemies. As you might expect, everything didn't go smoothly yet we could learn from Mark's interactions that the labels 'good' and 'bad' applied to others should never be assumed too readily. But I didn't stop there; remember, the Author can go wherever he or she wishes, only hoping that readers will follow and approve. So, along with the characters from ancient Palestine there were other players from very different environments. One of those places is Sydney in the year 1995, where another Mark is trying to find his way in life, while another location is... well, it's not so easily defined. But we can say that there are people here who have a strong interest in both of the men called Mark as well as their actions and reactions. Paul has had an interesting life and from an early age was a seeker after the truth of our real situation as humans. He wanted to know "what he was doing here?" and spent many years and experienced many adventures across continents in the attempt to find out.
In this enjoyably condensed story of his life he has sought to explain his position, why he was willing to tread the path less travelled, some of the surprising and/or difficult events along the way and the deep, enduring benefits eventually obtained.

About the author
Paul Rigby, born in Second World War London, has been a lifelong seeker and researcher. Raised in Zimbabwe, he returned to Britain with his family in 1960 and soon left home to explore other ideas of living and being. In 1965 he became a journalist in the East End of London and in 1969 travelled overland to Australia.
After taking up Transcendental Meditation, he left his Sydney-based IT public relations business to spend a winter at the Findhorn Community in northern Scotland; here he immersed himself in the 'New Age of Aquarius' and in 1981 helped set up a rural community near Bellingen, NSW.
Ten years later, Paul found his truest personal calling. Having followed this particular spiritual path for over 30 years, he is aware that now is the right time to share with a wider public, a knowledge base that can assist others to better understand and relate to our rapidly changing world. It's a world of great challenges and dangers that will eventually make way for a completely different way of existing on planet Earth. |
